Turning uncertainty into action & solidarity into progress
January 16, 2025
Next Monday, we’ll commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day – reflecting and recommitting in honor of the civil rights leader who gave his life to advance equity and justice for all. His vision continues to guide and inspire us as we collectively move towards a better food future for everyone, everywhere.
The Colorado Blueprint to End Hunger is building a movement led by the people who grow, produce, sell, and eat food. And, we’re shifting power to Colorado communities so they can choose what they eat, where it comes from, how it’s grown, and when it's available.
This year, MLK Day also coincides with Inauguration Day; a significant moment of transition for our nation. Many of us are apprehensive about the incoming presidential administration, the 119th Congress, and what may come over the next four years. But we remain steadfast in our vision, mission, and values.
Though the path ahead may feel daunting, Dr. King’s legacy and teachings are powerful reminders of how progress is the result of intentional action and solidarity; why we should remain vigilant and hopeful, even in uncertain times; and how meaningful change happens when communities come together.
By working together, we’re already moving closer to our shared goals – reduced hunger, fairer food access, more just and resilient food systems, and food justice for all. And we intend to lean in, not step back, in our efforts to achieve food for all, today and tomorrow. Here are a few ways that we’ll do this:
Advocate to protect and strengthen SNAP and WIC at the federal levels
Center and elevate the most marginalized Coloradans in all aspects of our work
Support organizations and groups that offer trainings like “Know Your Rights” and more
Push for systems that reflect our shared values of justice and equity
Join us in turning our uncertainty into action and solidarity into progress. Because everyone should be to able access the food they choose, when they need it, and where they want it – and we can make that happen if we continue to unite and take action together.
