Safety & dignity: Know your rights

Safety & dignity: Know your rights

January 23, 2025

The Colorado Blueprint to End Hunger firmly opposes policies that create fear, marginalize communities, or limit access to essential resources. Everyone, regardless of immigration status, deserves equitable access to food, safety, and dignity. We stand in solidarity with immigrant communities across Colorado and will support them by centering their voices in our work, shifting power to communities, advocating for just state and federal policies, and supporting resilient food systems where everyone can thrive. (Learn more about our commitment to equity.)

With recently signed executive orders targeting immigrant communities, it's crucial for those impacted, along with their allies, to know their legal protections. Trusted Colorado and national partners offer many resources to help people understand and exercise their rights in English, Spanish, and other languages. They include guidance on key protections in Colorado and accessing legal assistance to ways you can safeguard your family and navigate encounters with ICE.

Here’s a list of resources shared by our partners at the Colorado Language Access Coalition:

  • Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition: Watch their "Know Your Rights" presentation for helpful insights and explore their other resources.

  • Immigrant Legal Resource Center: Download printable "Know Your Rights" red cards in multiple languages to distribute in your community.

  • Informed Immigrant: Access resources and find guidance on scenarios such as interacting with ICE, workplace visits, or family preparedness plans.

  • National Immigration Law Center: View comprehensive "Know Your Rights" guides.

  • American Civil Liberties Union: Access resources like materials and a multilingual video series outlining immigrant rights.

  • Immigrant Defense Project: Learn what to do during encounters with ICE
