Bringing policy (and fun!) to community

Bringing policy (and fun!) to community

In September 2024, Jefferson County Food Policy Council (JCFPC) hosted their Food Policy Fair at Lakewood Park. The event’s goal was to create an interactive learning opportunity for members on the various policy processes and issues affecting local food systems.

The Colorado Blueprint to End Hunger’s Policy & Community Justice team was honored to be a part of the event. They led a learning opportunity on how original ideas become legislation, sharing a cheat sheet of common policy terms and tips on how to build relationships with legislators.

JCFPC members were also able to learn from friends at the Colorado Fiscal Institute on a local ballot measure to make tax policy more progressive in Jefferson County. And, Hunger Free Colorado provided information on SNAP, federally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, and the importance of access.

Simultaneous English and Spanish interpretation was provided along with childcare, ensuring that all council members were able to participate in the policy fair. The event wrapped up with a buffet catered by the family of JCFPC’s own Community Organizer,  Javier Alvarado Vega!
