Announcing Project UP focused on WIC & Medicaid
July 23, 2024
We’re excited to formally announce that Colorado is one of six states launching Project UP: Unlocking the Potential of WIC and Medicaid to Improve Nutrition and Health, with the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.
The Colorado Blueprint to End Hunger was awarded funding through December 2025 and will serve as the champion, facilitator, and connector for Project UP’s three key areas, which align with our new organizational commitments. They are:
Supporting state advocacy to improve access to the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC),
Identifying and sharing promising practices, and
Publishing resources on these approaches.
As Policy Director, Greta Allen will support the existing Colorado Healthcare Providers & WIC Collaborative, which is led by pediatricians Leisha Anderson and Meg Tomcho, both champions for increasing access to WIC through healthcare partnerships. Greta will provide facilitation, administrative support, and technical expertise to grow existing partnerships that best serve Colorado WIC clients and program staff.
This project is close to Greta’s heart as a registered dietitian and given her background as a WIC clinic supervisor and innovator for leveraging healthcare partnerships to increase access to the program.
We look forward to working more closely with our partners at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, Colorado WIC, local WIC directors and staff, and healthcare providers.
While this collaborative space is only open to WIC program staff and healthcare providers or entities, we’ll continue to provide updates on this work and create opportunities for WIC clients to join Project UP efforts in 2025!
