Blueprint’s Governing Council visits Fort Morgan and Kids at Their Best
July 27, 2023
The Colorado Blueprint to End Hunger’s Governing Council visited Fort Morgan and the local youth-powered nonprofit, Kids at Their Best, for their annual retreat last Friday, July 21.
The day started with a tour of their facility and learning more about the organization’s efforts to alleviate hunger across the community. After that, Blueprint staff and Governing Council members visited a few summer meal and enrichment sites – a chance to see the youth-led work of Kids at Their Best in action while interacting with some of the staff and participants of their Summer Blast program.
“It’s always fun to meet people from around the state who want to learn about our work,” shared Mariam Mohamed, one of 80 young adult staff members of Kids at Their Best, with The Fort Morgan Times. “We work hard to make sure that the kids at our sites get meals and have a fun summer. Someday, I am going to be a part of some of these boards.”
In the afternoon, the Governing Council and staff participated in a strategic planning session for the Blueprint's transformation with Point b(e) Strategies. To help prepare for the upcoming community listening sessions and survey, Governing Council members discussed the strengths and unique values that the Blueprint brings to its statewide network of partners. Thank you to the staff of Kids at Their Best for being gracious hosts and to all the Governing Council members who were able to participate that day! Read more about Kids at Their Best in our community spotlight below.
