This legislation provided an additional $3 million for the state’s voluntary Employment & Training (Employment First) program for ongoing participants in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP—formerly known as food stamps). The state investment is subject to a 1:1 federal match, creating an additional $6 million total for the program. Employment First helps SNAP recipients find and retain employment, provides work skill readiness trainings, and offers opportunities for supportive services such as work-related expenses including uniform/equipment reimbursements, child care assistance, transportation vouchers, and education stipends.
